Holograms are coming and sooner than you think. R&D into hologram technology is gaining pace and what was once just science fiction will soon be science fact.

Japans bid for the 2022 world cup was backed up by a proposal to show holographic matches in stadiums around the world, we are already seeing holographic fashion shows, holographic music concerts and product displays and it’s just a matter of time before this tech reaches the home.

Augmented reality and the “pseudo holographic” content it can provide will play a large part in consumer demand for holographic content so expect to see “holographic performances” viewed with AR Glasses in homes by 2015 if not sooner.

Beyond that many in the know believe true 3D Holographics (i.e. Projected holograms) of a watchable quality and frame rate will be common place within 10 years, by which time developments in bandwidth capacity and data transfer will be up to speed – excuse the pun.
